Antique French Perfume Button Necklace No. 1, Red and Cut Steel

Antique French Perfume Button Necklace No. 1, Red and Cut Steel
Antique perfume buttons date back to the 1700's, when fragrances were too heavy to wear on the skin and clothing. Women would dab their fragrance onto the fabric of the buttons and enjoy perfumes without staining or irritation.
The history of these beauties is something I have always found intriguing, from the romanticism of women handing them off to their loved ones before battle to remind them of home, and how the majority of these types of buttons were coveted once they fell out of popularity.
The button here is a beautiful bright red velvet, with antique French cut steel rivets in the center. The button itself measures 1" and is accented with vintage Czech carnival glass beads. Hung from NOS 1970'S brass chain. Total Necklace length is 18" and has a 1.5" extender chain. Closes with a lobster clasp.
